This chip provides two high-speed serial communication ports (UART) with features like a 16-byte send/receive FIFO, a programmable baud rate generator, full modem control, and a processor interrupt system. The UART supports legacy speeds up to 115.2K bps and even higher baud rates of 230K, 460K, or 921K bps for faster modem support.

Furthermore, the NCT6779D supports PC-compatible printer port (SPP), bi-directional printer port (BPP), enhanced parallel port (EPP), and extended capabilities port (ECP). It also supports a keyboard and mouse interface based on the 8042 keyboard controller.

Flexible I/O control functions are offered through a set of general-purpose I/O (GPIO) ports, which can function as standard I/O ports or be individually configured for alternative functions.

The NCT6779D supports industry standards like Intel® PECI (Platform Environment Control Interface) and AMD® SB-TSI interface. It assists with AMD® CPU power-on sequences and offers support for Intel® Deep Sleep Well glue logic, simplifying the external circuits required for Deep Sleep Well function.

This chip also assists in decoding port 80 diagnostic messages on the LPC bus, aiding in system power-on debugging. It includes support for two-color LED control to indicate system power states. Additionally, the NCT6779D supports Consumer IR functionality for remote control and Advanced Power Saving functions to reduce power consumption when the system is in the S5 state.

Inside the NCT6779D, configuration registers enable mode selection, function enable/disable, and power-down selection. The configurable Plug and Play (PnP) features are compatible with Windows' plug-and-play feature, enhancing system resource allocation efficiency.
