AMD Xilinx, Inc

Xilinx is the world's leading provider of complete programmable logic solutions. Xilinx develops, manufactures and markets a wide range of advanced integrated circuits, software design tools, and IP (Intellectual Property) cores as predefined system-level features. Customers use Xilinx and its partners' automation software tools and IP verification devices to program specific logic operations.

Founded in 1984, Xilinx pioneered the innovative technology of Field Programmable Logic Array (FPGA) and first introduced commercial products in 1985. At the moment, Xilinx meets more than half of the world's demand for FPGA products. The Xilinx product line also includes Complex Programmable Logic Devices (CPLDs). CPLDs are typically faster than FPGAs in some control applications, but they provide less logic resources. Xilinx programmable logic solutions reduce the risk for manufacturers by reducing the time it takes for electronics manufacturers to develop products and speed time-to-market.

In October 2020, AMD announced its intention to acquire Xilinx, a leading provider of programmable logic devices and related technologies, in an all-stock transaction. The acquisition was completed on February 25, 2021. With the completion of the acquisition, Xilinx has become a part of AMD.

AMD is a semiconductor company that specializes in the design and manufacture of microprocessors, graphics processing units (GPUs), and related technologies. AMD's processors and GPUs are widely used in various applications, including personal computers, servers, gaming consoles, and embedded systems.

Xilinx, now a part of AMD, is known for its programmable logic devices, particularly field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), which can be reprogrammed to perform specific tasks or functions. Xilinx's FPGAs are used in a wide range of applications, including data centers, telecommunications, automotive, aerospace, and industrial sectors.

The acquisition of Xilinx expands AMD's product portfolio and enhances its capabilities in the data center and embedded markets. The combination of AMD's processors and Xilinx's programmable logic devices provides a more comprehensive and integrated solution for customers' computing and acceleration needs.
